Hey everyone. I wasn’t sure what to title this characteristic of the enemy. So for now I’m just going to go with Appearance vs substance.
I think this subject I could probably write a lot, but since I want to keep it simple, I will just try to list.
1. Think Hollywood. Need I say more.
2. How much of our time and money do we spend on diets, gyms, clothes, etc to “fix” or “perfect” our appearance? Versus how much of our time do we spend in the Bible learning about what in our life offends and angers God and “fixing” our sinful nature… (repenting of our sin and asking God for forgiveness)?
3. Do we spend more time “Appearing” like Christians or “Being” Christians. This one might get me in to trouble, but seriously it’s in the Bible. Matthew Chapter 7, the wheat and the tares, the foolish virgins and the wise virgins. There are a lot of people in the church looking like a Christian, talking like a Christian, showing up to church every Sunday… That kind of thing.
But in the end, God is going to say “I never knew you”. To many. Only a few will find the narrow way.
Most of Jesus’ warnings about hell were to new believers. The Bible talks about how we should examine ourselves in the faith, that we will know by our fruits.
Yet people don’t look at their own fruits.
So I guess I really just want to ask… what do you value?
You’ll know by how you spend your time… How you spend you money… What you talk about (what is in your heart overflows out of your mouth)…
So… what do you value?
Here’s one that got me… What would others say you value?
They will know by your fruits..
I didn’t have any fruits.
Judging by my waist line, I’m pretty sure I ate the fruits….
With a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream and hot fudge 🙂
Anyway, the point is… the enemy wants you worried about the looks of your body and (which by the way will just get old and die) rather than focused on your soul.
